Armstrong County Historical Markers
NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 29
Have - 18 Need - 11
Armstrong County is named for one of the pioneer families from this county. County seat is Claude. Armstrong County is full of silos and wind farms. We really only tackled Claude on this trip, which did have the most authentic historic markers at the courthouse that we have come across thus far.
There were issues and I think there will be more to come. Warner Memorial Community Center did not have a marker anywhere around the outside of the building. The Site of Warner Building marker was also not there and the building was razed. I believe the markers for First Battle of the Palo Duro, Battle of Red River and Roadside Park on Hamblen Drive are missing probably stolen, through we did not look for them at this time. There are several others that may prove problematic though I choose to remain positive until we have looked for ourselves. |
