Marker Text: Captain James William McCarty, Eagle Lake's first mayor, donated land for a church in 1888. After decades of use, the church became vacant until 1939, when the newly-organized local Lutheran Church congregation moved into the building, until 1951. Following the Lutheran's departure, the Assembly of God Church called this building their home until 1991, then Living Hope Church moved into the building. Although the 40-foot steeple has been lost over time, weakened by storms and age, the current bell still rings proudly for the oldest original church building in Eagle Lake. The Christian Church remains a historic sanctuary where congregants continue to gather to profess their faith and fellowship. (2018)
