Marker Text: On this site in September 1881 Fort Worth's first telephone exchange was founded by Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone Company. It initially served 40 customers and employed three local employees. One hundred years later telephone service is supplied by Southwestern Bell serving 750,000 customers and employing 3300 people.
