TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Hale County Historical Markers

NUMBER OF MARKER IN COUNTY - 46
Have - 28 Need -18
Picture
Named for Lt. John C. Hale who fought in the Battle of San Jacinto. The county seat is Plainview.
We visited Hale County in 2012 but at this stage of our trip we were more focused on markers in and around Plainview, we did not venture into Hale Center or some of the surrounding towns. On doing some research the Texas Historical Commission atlas has noted the markers of Plainview community, Lakeview School and Community and  The Stant - Rhea Stage Stand as missing, I am trying to confirm this with Hale County Historical Commission. I'm a little confused as to whether the Mongomery-Ward Building is still standing? I could use some help on that one.
I like this part of Texas, as a rule, we have  found people to be friendly and helpful. So apart from being a good distance from home, it is no trouble to travel here.

23rd March, 2020 - On reviewing this county I reread all my correspondence with Hale County Historical Commission. This is what I know, the Mongomery-Ward Building burnt down. The are several missing markers but without physically going to the site I have no confirmation that they are  gone. The Hale County Historical Commission has no immediate plans to replace any of the missing markers.
