Marker Text: In 1946, Harper residents formed a committee to secure land for Park. From the beginning, residents aided the efforts through labor, finances, and planning. Organizations also contributed, providing funds for the purchase of property and for construction. On arena was built almost immediately, in 1948. Other improvements included a baseball field, a football field, a recreational hall and rodeo grounds. In 1962 the Park added additional land and a community hall. In 1986, the Harper Pioneer Museum opened on the grounds. Many noted Harper residents have served on the Park Board. Today Harper community Park remains a treasured institution and a model for how residents can work together to improve their community. (2009)
