TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Kendall County Historical Markers

NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY -  75
Have - 72 Need- 3
Picture
Named for George Kendall Wilkins a journalist and war correspondent. The county seat is Boerne.
We both love the Hill Country and always enjoy staying there,  I particularly enjoyed staying in the Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne. It has made the hunt for historical markers in Kendall County such fun.

Special thanks go to Mr. Ronald Lux for allowing us access on to his property to the Patton gravesite and to Juanita Chipman and her sister who not only allowed us access to the Dr. Ferdinand Ludwig Von Herff marker but drove us up the mountain as well. We could have easily spent several hours with these very interesting ladies. I would also like to send our appreciation to Bettie Edmonds for giving us the information that allowed us to contact the above property owners. Theda Sueltenfuss has also been of a source of lots information and deserves our continued thanks.
There is one marker that has been destroyed/stolen by vandals there is no talk of replacing the Andrew Jackson Potter marker, as the family replaced this marker in another county. While we have had a lot of success with markers on private property in this county, we also had basically our only refusal which was very disappointing. The owner of the Rice House felt that her husband was too private a person her to allow us to capture a photo of the house and marker but I'm now thinking this may be possible from the road.  The 1936 centennial bronze plaque for Post Oak Spring Ranch pictures are used with the permission of John Ed Stepan.  Kendall County has been busy in the last few years and added several new markers........ so it's time to go back.

18th July, 2020 - We took a brief overnight visit to Kerrville, just to stop from going stir crazy. Boerne was very busy so I guess many other people had the same idea. We picked up all the new markers and I have a lead on the Lex Sanitarium so we are getting closer to completing the county. We did decide to we want to spend a night in Comfort in the near future just because it would be good for the soul.
