TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Picture
This county is named for Robert J. Kleberg who was an early settler. The county seat is Kingsville.

We first visited this part of Texas in 2005 on our way home from South Padre Island which part of our first honeymoon. At this stage of the trip we were ready to get get home so we didn't do the King Ranch tour, that would have allowed us to capture the Santa Gertrudis ranch headquarters marker, though I'm not sure our camera at the time would have been up to the task as I believe you have to snap a shot from the tour bus. I found some evidense that the marker entitled King Ranch C.S.A. maybe on the ranch rather than at the entrance, which is the location given by the Texas Historical Commission. There are also several other shots that are less great, the Texas Historical Commission actually does have some of them listed as missing so they maybe as good as gets.

We  visited  again recently, and were sort of free-styling and therefore not as prepared as we normally are, it was also soooo hot and we lost patience pretty quickly. Thats when the margaritas started calling! 🍸and we did miss a couple of the newer markers.

24th May, 2021 - On the way home from a South Texas trip with picked a few more marker in Klegberg County. The King Ranch C.S.A. still eludes us and no one seems to know exactly what happened to it.
