TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

La Salle County Historical Markers

NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 30
Have - 26  Need - 4
Picture
Named for René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, a French explorer. The county seat is Cotulla.        We were only on the outskirts of La Salle County, and only for a few hours, so I really have little to say about the markers as yet. I can tell you this part of Texas felt different to me, like something out of a western movie. It was hot and dry but also a little sad like it may have  seen better days. Like I said we only spent a few hours here and first impressions can change but thats  all I have right now.
After researching the county's marker's most being in Cotulla, the majority should be attainable. I could not confirm the Cotulla Ranch marker but the ranch is definitely still in existence  I could also not confirm the First Deep Artesian Well marker's location but it could be on Cotulla Ranch. I have written to the La Salle Historical Commission to see if they have any information. The Kings Highway markers can be problematic and a couple have not been located so we will see, Steve particularly likes to find these, almost like a personal challenge.

14th January, 2023- We spent a bit longer in the county on this visit and did manage to capture most of the markers including the pink granite Old San Antonio Road markers., which Steve loves. Two of these markes have not been located.  The Cotulla Ranch and original First Deep Artesian Well are I believe still on the ranch and Fort Ewell is still in place.
