TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Liberty County Historical Markers

MARKERS IN COUNTY- 76
Liberty county is named for the very concept America was founded on, Liberty. The County seat is also Liberty and it's the town where most of the markers can be found. We visited on the weekend and for  a Sunday the town was  was incredibly busy, which was surprising to us. Liberty County has a rural feel to it.  Located  in the Pineywoods region of Texas it's very green and it was enjoyable to drive through the county. This county also has several gray granite centennial markers more than you would expect from the county this size, a  couple of them are on private property making them more difficult to locate and we have yet to visit those.
We confirmed several markers are missing these are the marker for  "Early night packing plant",  "The Trinity River" "Mexican Hill" (centennial)  and "Casa Consistatorial". I have written to Liberty County historical commission and am waiting to read if anyone knows what happened to the markers and if there are any plans to replace them. Several markers have been added since we visited in  2013 so a new trip is in order.

UPDATE- May 24th, 2017 - Application to the Texas Historical Commission has been applied for a replacement marker for Casa Consistatorial apparently it was found in a dumpster in a state of disrepair 😤. Thanks to LJ from Liberty County for their response and patience with my many questions.
