TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

When we arrived in Madisonville it was pouring down, an absolute Texas torrential rainstorm, the next day it was hot and steamy, such is the weather in Texas. We stayed in the pictured Woodbine Hotel, which was comfortable but at the time not especially clean, there was a dead cricket on the floor in the bathroom when we arrived and don't get me wrong I know those buggers are everywhere at certain times of the year in Texas but it was still there two days later when we left. Also bedspreads freak me out, they are a petri dish for germs and who knows how often they actually get washed. It was great that it had a restaurant attached but the food was at best mediocre. I loved that it was close enough for me to walk around the town. I could probably stay there again as I thought the old building was really neat, but Steve said he would not, who knows it may have got better.
We stayed in Madisonville for two days and did manage to take pictures of most of the markers. Bozeman Cemetery was water logged and I have since learned the marker had yet to be dedicated when we were there, it is up now. Hayes Cemetery marker is on private property. There is one Old San Antonio Road in Madison County has yet to be found (by anyone) and it is thought that it maybe actually one of the current ones that was relocated, as they are too close together to be where they were originally placed. Madisonville Church of Christ was mislabeled and we simply missed looking for it (a rookie mistake). Site of Bullard Community is on a dirt road that was too wet for us to venture down at that time.
Addendum: The Woodbine Hotel is under new management and have updated the rooms, we wish them every success, as it is a lovely old hotel.
