TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

McMullen County

NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 24

McMullen County is named for John McMullen who was a Texas Colony founder. The county seat is Tilden. We first visited this county in 2006 and what sticks out in my memory and really the only thing that sticks out, is Boot Hill Cemetery, and how odd it was that this collection of people who died by unusual means were buried in this small cemetery at the back of the town.  I was new to Texas in 2006 and it might not have stuck me as being so different now, that I am used to Texas and its uniqueness.
Loma Alta is listed as missing in the atlas but we don't trust that until we have looked because the locations listed for those early markers are at best, only appropriate. San Miguel Cemetery marker is up we just have not got to it yet. Thomas & Sarah Stringfield may be there. The Townsite if Zella I believe is there.
