Marker Text: Born in Italy about 1840, Michael Paggi (d. 1911) came to Texas in the 1860s. He bought this lot adjoining the busy market square area in 1875 and built this commercial structure to house his carriage and wagon sale office. Elaborate brickwork decorates the facade of the two-story stone building. Paggi sold the property in 1906. Various stores and professional offices occupied the edifice before it was purchased and restored in 1973 by Jay L. Johnson, Jr. (1976)
