Marker Text: ​The first Masonic Lodge in San Marcos, the Cushney Lodge No. 128, was charted in 1853, but had disbanded by 1870. Two years later former members of the group were instrumental in the formation of the San Marcos Masonic Lodge No. 342, the organizational meeting was held in a log cabin that also served as a church building, schoolhouse and courthouse.
 Early meetings of the lodge were conducted in a rock building on the southeast corner of the town square and later in the First National Bank building. In1938 the lodge moved to this structure, which had been completed in 1920 as a residence for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson.
        Designed by architect Atlee B. Ayres, the building reflects influences of the classical revival and Mediterranean revival styles, architectural details include ionic columns, terraces, ornate balustrades and elaborate Terra cotta ornamentation.
        Since its beginning in 1872, the San Marcos Masonic Lodge No. 342 has made significant contributions to the development of the community, members here have included many prominent business, professional and civic leaders of the area. (1982)
