Shackelford County Historical Markers
NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 47
Shackelford County is named for Dr. Jack Shackelford a doctor who helped equip soldiers to fight in the Texas Revolution, there is a historical marker for him that gives more detail about who he was and what he did. County seat is Albany.
We a Saturday afternoon in Albany where the majority of this counties markers are located. it is a very neat and organized country town with at least 10 to 15 markers in or around the courthouse square. We have yet to venture to Fort Griffin and the other surrounding areas. It's nice to say Shackelford County has yet to pose to many problems. We did stop to eat at the Icehouse Restaurant as it had good reviews and we would be able to get an end of the day margarita which has become somewhat of tradition when available (😥 not always the case) the food was not bad though either of us have much memory of it but the margarita was mostly just lime juice refreshing but a little disappointing.
Shackelford County has a very active historical commission and have added several new markers since we were there in 2012.
