TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Waller County Historical  Markers

NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 54
Have -45  Need- 9
Waller County is named for Edwin Waller first major of Austin and signer of Texas  Declaration of Independence. Hempstead is county seat.
This is one county that I don't have any particular affinity for, this happens when we haven't stayed or eaten in that county. Waller County is on the way to Houston and so the markers we have captured the markers when traveling to and from Austin to Houston. The only thing that really stands out is the Dilorio farmers market in Hempstead where we have often stopped for fresh veggies.
Waller County is not particularly active in terms of adding new markers so it can be years between looking for markers in this county. As to problem children. Charles Donoho Plantation, Brookshire Family Cemetery, Liendo and Liendo Plantation are all on private property and require permission and time to access, Wade Cemetery and Jacob Freeman have been new since we first looked in 2006. Heinrich Konrad Karl Leverkuhn I think may be accessible as a cemetery trust property but when we looked at it our directions where pretty vague and we were not sure we were going in the right direction or if we were trespassing because it's definitely in a field somewhere. Lastly, St. Francis Episcopal Church is not at the address that Texas Historical commission has it at unless the name has changed or the medallion may or may not have been removed and it is on the road into Prairie View.
