TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Live Oak County Historical Markers

NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 38
Have - 32 Need- 6
Picture
Named for the Live Oak tree that grows in this region. George West is the county seat. I have to admit I don't have a great sense for this county as we have visited twice but really only while passing to somewhere else. There are only 33 markers in this rural county but the Live Oak County Historical Commission havs an awesome web page to communicate and promote what is happening in the county. They add a couple new markers a year which is no mean feat for a smaller county, as these markers are expensive and take some time to research and apply for.
There are several on private property in Live Oak, we have yet to try and get to them so I'm not sure just how difficult this might be. I think the marker for the Town of Dinero is missing. I have written to the Live Oak County Historical to confirm.

7th August, 2020 -  We picked up the Loma Sandia Primitive Cemetery on the way home from Corpus Christi, which did confuse me. We have looked for this marker in the past without success and  then suddenly there it was shining in the sun on a major highway, no way we would have missed it the first round. So when I loaded it on the website I realized that the text was not the same as it is listed on the Texas Historical Commission atlas, so with a little research I saw a picture of the marker by the same title with the text as listed, it looks to be much closer to the actual burial ground. So this leaves the question of are there two or was the first one replaced?
2nd February, 2021 -  I now have a much better feel for Live Oak County. We have moved to Portland Texas and Live Oak is one of the neighboring counties. We have taken a few trips recently to close to home counties. What is left in Live Oak are markers on private property which I belive we will be able to visit. I don't believe Don Victoriano Chapa_Don Priscilliano Chapa marker is up yet and I'm still sure if there are Loma Sandia Primitive Cemetery markers.
