Lavaca County is named for the Lavaca River. The county seat is Hallettsville. The biggest towns are Hallettsville, Moulton, Shiner and Yoakum,  which also lies in Dewitt County.
We started exploring Lavaca County back in 2008 and my strongest recollections of this county are that they have the most markers of any county for the site of schools, at the time of writing 22 markers to be exact, for  small rural schoolhouses gathered throughout the county. It makes sense to me, the county has a history of immigration from Germany, Czechoslovakia and Moravia, these immigrants were seeking better lives and education was and still is a pathway to achieving that.
Most of the markers in Lavaca County are accessible, with only a few on private property or missing. The Lavaca County Historical Commission is very active and adds several new markers each year. One of my favorite marker counties occurred in Shiner where we were finishing our day and heading home. We stopped at the William Green house which is now part of a museum and enquired about the location of the medallion and plate. The ladies were initially somewhat indignant saying the cabin did not have a marker until I showed them the Texas Historical Commission atlas entry for it. They took my number and promised to let me know what they found. Two days later they called and said the medallion and plate are in the bank where they were placed for safe keeping during movement of the house to its current location. I investigated but I still can't see that it was returned to the house, but I could be wrong. My absolute favorite marker for this county is the Shiner-Welhausen Homestead, which the same ladies at the William Green house gave us directions to and told us the owners would not mind if we visited to take a photo, I don't know if this is true because we never met them but we got the photo of this lovely old home.
