Coke county is named for Richard Coke the 15th governor of Texas. The county seat is Robert Lee.
We only briefly visited Coke County and have only explored the eastern part of the county, around Bronte. We did this on purpose because it was the weekend and a visit to Robert Lee needs to be a weekday if we hope to capture the General Robert Edward Lee bust which resides in city hall. I did research the remaining markers in Coke County to ensure we would be ready for any future trip and could not locate the Panther Gap marker. Betty Prather, Coke County Historical Commission chairperson confirmed it had been stolen. There has been talk of replacing it, but at that time in 2015, talk was all that had happened. In fact the last marker installed in this county was in 1986, so as Betty mentioned volunteers are spread pretty thin on the ground and even they are aging, making any momentum virtually not existence in this Central Texas County.

24th March, 2019 - I reviewed this county but learned nothing new.
