TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS

Coleman County Historical Markers

NUMBER OF MARKERS IN COUNTY - 37
Have - 29  Need- 8
County is named for Robert M. Coleman who was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. County seat is Coleman. Coleman County is an area we have been in and out of many times but have never stayed in. I do have my eye on the swanky Rancholoma in Valera though I think if we did stay there not much marker hunting would get done because we wouldn't want to leave the facility 😋 .
We have yet to visit the area around Camp Colorado but I believe the cemetery and centennial marker are accessible. I think the guard house may be able to be seen from the road but I have yet to see a recent photo of it and have never seen the medallion it is supposed to have. The tricky ones for this county are the Cleveland- Anson House, Ken Elkins Home and The Rock House on Day Ranch all are on private property with vague directions and none are easily accessible, I have written to Coleman County Historical Commission for assistance because I am always up for a challenge and would love to complete the set for Coleman County (maybe we could celebrate at Rancholoma............I think I'm really warming  to that idea).
Picture
The unique thing about these properties in Coleman County is that despite several searches over many years I have never seen a picture of any of the houses, this is unusual they have been around for a long time and are of interest historically.
25th March, 2019 - Coleman County has added one new cemetery photo and its there. The frustrating ones are the ones I my not sure are even still standing Cleveland-Anson House, Camp Colorado Guard House, Ken Elkins Home and The Rock House on Day Ranch.
